Comparison

Comparison is no stranger to us. Whether it’s feeling less than as an athlete, less valued socially, or less beautiful externally-comparison has one job; to steal our joy and to make us doubt our identity. And if we are not careful, it also welcomes the false idea that our life would be better if we were just someone else. It is all a lie.

There are 3 problems with the lies of comparison:
1. It tells us that God is not a good creator. This is dangerous because it creates doubt in our hearts about the character of God and who we are.
2. It causes us to not trust God with our life story. It leads us to believe that we are a better writer of our our story than God.
3. It doesn’t allow us to celebrate others successes. It creates rivalry in us and ruins relationships.

But here’s the thing- God is a wonderful creator and unbelievable writer. He is a GOOD God!
If you struggle with comparison, this is what you need to know.

First off, you are Gods creation and therefore, you are wonderfully made. The Bible even says that you are Gods “masterpiece.” Every part of you was intricately and specifically created by God and for his glory. By doubting your worth you are doubting Gods creation.
Secondly, God has a good plan for your life and he knows the the desires of your heart. If you are too focused on what God is doing in someone else’s life rather than on the details of what he is doing in your own- you just might miss out on something beautiful he has laid out just for you.

As the picture shows above: goodness and beauty come in different forms. Just because someone else is seemingly “more” in your eyes doesn’t mean you are “less” in God’s eyes - it just means you were created to be different. That’s a good thing! Why? Because you will never be able to live in the fullness of somebody else.
Believe it or not-your story is specific to you. ONLY YOU will be able to experience the fullness of it. And the fullness of who you are has a specific God-given purpose that only YOU can fulfill. How beautiful.

Rather than getting caught up in someone else’s story- embrace the story God has lovingly written out for you! No one else’s is like it and that’s beautiful.
