If You Want an Unshakeable Marriage You have to have an Unshakeable Foundation

Any of y’all who know me well know that one of the greatest desires of my heart is to one day get married. Not because I want a beautiful wedding or because I want to be with a good looking guy- but because I want to someday have a marriage that radiates the beauty of the love of Christ.

Because of this, the Lord has been continually teaching me, showing me, and helping me understand what a marriage that is rooted in him looks like.

Here’s some things that I have learned about marriage in the waiting. 

1. God has to be the foundation of your marriage. If you want an unshakeable marriage, you both have to have him as the foundation. God is the only thing that never fails. Therefore, if you don’t want your marriage to fail, you need to look to him. 

2. If they do not know and love God, they will never be able to love you right. Only people who know Gods heart and his design for love will truly be able to love you and know the depths of your heart.

3. Love isn’t a continual feeling. Love is the decision to choose someone over and over again regardless of how they make you feel. That’s why Gods design for love is to be unconditional. 

4. We are the bride of Christ. If we aren’t able to be a good bride to God, how would we ever be able to be a good spouse to someone else. 

5. Marriage is hard. That’s why individually, you both need to be fully rooted in Christ. When things get hard, you should both be looking to God rather than other people, drinking, etc. It will save your marriage.

6. If Gods love for you isn’t enough, no persons will ever be. The person you marry shouldn’t be filling the role that only God can. If you’re looking to find someone to give you joy, worth, validation, etc You’re really just looking for God in a broken person. Work on your relationship with God first. 

With all this said, know that a Godly marriage is worth waiting and fighting for. Let the one who created the both of you be the one who leads the way. He will make your marriage foundationally unshakeable.
